The Computer/Electronic Accommodations Program (CAP) can provide assistive technology and services for interns with disabilities serving term and temporary appointments. This includes individuals participating in programs such as the Workforce Recruitment Program (WRP), Pathways, and Operation Warfighter. The individual to be accommodated must be appointed to a position in the Department of Defense (DoD).
CAP’s evaluation process may differ from DoD agencies, which are ultimately responsible for providing accommodations. CAP will only consider providing accommodations that we determine to be reasonable and appropriate. For term and temporary appointments, how long it will take to successfully implement a solution and the duration of the appointment may be considered. All accommodations are considered on a case by case basis.
Pathways
The US Department of State is host to the Pathways Internship Program. Pathways internships can be either temporary or last for the duration of the intern’s schooling. These opportunities allow students to gain work experience with the Federal government.
- Internship Experience Program (IEP)
- These programs are internships without a set end date, expected to last for the duration of the intern’s academic program. IEP participants are eligible for Federal employee benefits and may be eligible for promotions.
- Internship Temporary Program (ITEP)
- These temporary internships allow interns to work during seasonal breaks during their school year. ITEP interns may be eligible for health benefits, but cannot receive additional benefits (life insurance, retirement, etc.). These internships do not have promotion potential, but ITEP interns may apply for higher-graded positions on www.usajobs.gov.

Operation Warfighter
Operation Warfighter (OWF) is a Department of Defense program that provides wounded, ill, and injured active duty Service members with non-paid, Federal internships. The program’s mission is to give these Service members to gain additional work experience and connections while recovering.
OWF coordinators assist Service members in building their resumes, exploring career options, and securing opportunities for additional training and networking. Both Service members who intend to continue on active duty and those seeking to transition to civilian Federal employment are encouraged to apply.
