The Computer/Electronic Accommodations Program (CAP) is the Department of Defense’s centrally funded reasonable accommodation program that provides assistive technology (AT) and services to DoD civilian employees with disabilities and wounded, ill, and injured Service members.

Supporting the Total Force

CAP serves the Total Force by equipping:

  • DoD civilian employees with disabilities
  • Active duty Service Members with functional limitations that are continuing on active duty
  • Wounded, Ill, and Injured Service members that are in the medical evaluation board process planning to separate from active duty
  • DoD employees with disabling conditions who are also:
    • Workers’ Compensation beneficiaries
    • Term and temporary employees
    • Detail appointments
  • DoD managers and supervisors seeking to hire or accommodate individuals with disabilities
  • Federal agencies—CAP offers consultation services on assistive technology and accommodations

Partnering Across the DoD

We work closely with DoD components and leadership to identify and implement model accommodation practices. Our collaborative approach ensures that accommodations are not only compliant but also effective and sustainable across work environments.

Government-Wide Collaboration

Beyond the Department of Defense, CAP partners with federal agencies across the Executive Branch. We:

  • Conduct Needs Assessments to identify the most effective assistive technology solutions for each individual
  • Share best practices and success stories to support effective disability employment strategies across the federal government
