Fiscal Year 2009

  • December 4, 2008: Received the 2008 "President's Quality Award for Management Excellence," the highest honor for executive branch agencies, for its innovative use of web/e-Government to support federal employees and wounded Service members with disabilities
  • Introduced CAPTEC's "Disability Employment Innovation" series, aimed to provide awareness of the technology provided to accommodate Federal employees with disabilities and wounded Service members
  • CAPTEC underwent a facelift and moved during the Pentagon renovations
  • Actively supported wounded Service members during their recovery and rehabilitation. 
  • Implemented MTF personnel training program in DoDI support
  • Provided 1,321 needs assessments and 4,519 accommodations to Service members and MTFs
  • 9,757 accommodations provided

Fiscal Year 2008

  • July 23, 2008: Hosted Two Percent by 2019 with another agency at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center. The event informed federal managers about disability employment in the Executive Branch and ways to recruit, retain, and advance employees with disabilities and disabled veterans
  • September 9, 2008: The Department of Defense Instruction, Assistive Technology (AT) for Wounded Service Members (DoDI 6025.22) established policy for AT programs in the Military Health System, affirming CAP's role in providing AT to wounded Service members. It also allows them to keep the equipment after separation, supporting their transition to civilian life.
  • Supported agencies through its GetFit Initiative to improve their programs
  • CAP also worked directly with agencies to help improve their disability employment programs via the GetFit Initiative 
  • 10,356 accommodations provided

Fiscal Year 2007

  • October 17, 2006: Public Law 109-364 passed, allowing injured Service members on active duty to retain the AT and services upon separation from active duty. It permits them to continue their education or return to the workforce using CAP-provided AT
  • Actively supported wounded Service members during their recovery and rehabilitation. 
  • 1,831 CAPTEC customers, including a special tour for the Honorable Christine M. Griffin, EEOC Commissioner
  • Provided 950+ needs assessments and 2,998 accommodations to Service members and MTFs 
  • 8,775 accommodations provided

Fiscal Year 2006

  • June 14, 2006: The Department of Defense, on behalf of CAP, received the inaugural Freedom to Compete award for advancing workplace access and inclusion. Dr. David S.C. Chu, Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness, accepted the honor
  • August 30, 2006: Partnered with TRICARE Management Activity to host "From Deployment to Employment: A Training Forum on Services and Employment of Wounded Service Member" in Bethesda, MD. The forum aimed to strengthen interagency collaboration to enhance recovery, rehabilitation, and employment outcomes for wounded Service members
  • 2,580 CAPTEC customers, including special tours for the Honorable Cari M. Dominguez, EEOC chair, and the Honorable Charles S. Ciccolella, Assistant Secretary for the U. S. Department of Labor Veteran's Employment and Training Service
  • 6,310 accommodations provided

  • Telework initiative provided equipment for employees with disabilities to work at home or another offsite location
  • Received leadership award at the Potomac Forum's "Telework in the Federal Government" event for its innovative approach to increasing telework by federal government employees with disabilities
  • Provided support to increase Military Health System accessibility and reemployment assistance for wounded Service members
  • Expanded services and training to include Brooke and Tripler Army Medical Centers, Ft. Leonard Wood, and the National Naval Medical Center
  • Provided CAPTEC tours for the Honorable James Langevin, Rhode Island congressman, and the Honorable Paul Wolfowitz, former Deputy Secretary of Defense
  • 2,305 CAPTEC customers, including 30+ via video teleconference
  • Provided 175 accommodations for teleworkers with disabilities
  • 5,542 accommodations provided

  • Honored with a Horizon Interactive Award for Self-Promotion/Company Identity in support of the President's e-Government Initiative
  • Produced first fully accessible, self-running, interactive CD-ROM: "Real Solutions for Real Needs" 
  • CD-ROM won the "2004 Best New Communications Ability Award" from the New Freedom Foundation and two "Horizon Interactive Awards" for Education/Training and flash utilization

Fiscal Year 2001

  • October 30, 2000: National Defense Authorization Act signed by Congress to grant CAP the authority to "provide assistive technology, devices, and services to any department or agency in the Federal government upon the request of the head of the agency"June 19, 2001: President Bush and Secretary Rumsfeld visited CAPTEC, where Bush delivered his first speech on disability issues. He announces his New Freedom Initiative, which supports Section 508 and Executive Order 13217 and calls for swiftly implementing the Olmstead decision by promoting community-based alternatives
  • June 21, 2001: Section 508 federal enforcement began
  • IT and acquisition team training began to support Section 508 requirements.
