The PEARL Portable Reading Solution is a camera that captures printed material as an image and converts it into an electronic format. Once the information is converted, Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software converts the image to speech. The PEARL Portal Reading Solution weighs 2.20 pounds and is 14 inches long, 3 inches wide, and 2 inches tall when folded up. The PEARL Portable Reading Solution does not work independently; it needs to be paired with OCR software, such as Openbook. Individuals who are blind or have extremely low vision, have OCR software on their computer, and are required to access information on hard copy documents in various locations as a part of their required job functions may benefit from this device.
