CAPTEC
For individuals without disabilities, technology makes things easier. For individuals with disabilities, technology makes many aspects of life, including work, possible. Workplace assistive technology can encompass something as simple as an alternative keyboard to the latest in today's cutting-edge technology, such as voice controlled computer access software.
Located in the Pentagon, the CAP Technology Evaluation Center (CAPTEC) is a facility dedicated to the evaluation and demonstration of a variety of assistive technology solutions. If you are seeking solutions to accessibility challenges, you can visit CAPTEC, either in person or via Video-Teleconferencing (VTC). At CAPTEC, you will have the opportunity to see the types of equipment available, receive a needs assessment and compare different solutions. The CAPTEC staff is available to work with you to select the most appropriate assistive technology solution to help you carry out the essential functions of your job.
Schedule an Appointment at CAPTEC
To contact CAPTEC and schedule an appointment, please call (703) 693-5160 (Voice)/(703) 693-6189 (TTY)/(574) 384-5625 (Videophone) or email CAP.CAPTEC@mail.mil. Normal CAPTEC operating hours are Monday through Thursday 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM and Fridays by appointment.
All visitors are encouraged to arrive at the Pentagon via Metro; it is the easiest and most reliable means of transportation, as well as the closest.
Currently this is the only entrance through which visitors may enter. There is no visitor parking at the Pentagon.
Getting to CAPTEC
Take Metro Rail's Blue or Yellow line to Pentagon (not Pentagon City).
PLEASE NOTE: From February through September 2013, Metro is performing construction on the escalators at the Pentagon Metro Station; the Southside escalators are closed. Please check www.wmata.com for information from Metro on their construction. The best information that CAPTEC currently has is as follows: Once you exit the turnstiles from the train, take the escalators/elevator (the Northside escalators) to your right up to the street level.
Once at the street level, you will find signage that directs you to the Pentagon entrance and visitor processing center. At the visitor processing center, each visitor will be required to present 2 forms of identification, one of which must be a photo ID. Acceptable IDs include drivers’ licenses, current or expired passports, government identification cards, or Social Security cards. Credit cards are no longer acceptable as forms of identification. All bags will be searched. Upon exiting this security station, you will proceed and enter the Pentagon; turn immediately to your left and proceed to the Pentagon Visitor Center. Walk past the visitor processing desk and immediately to your left you will find a bank of courtesy telephones/TTY.
Please call CAPTEC at 703-693-5160 (voice) or 703-693-6189 (TTY). CAPTEC staff will come down to the entrance, assist you in getting a visitors badge, and provide you with an escort into the building. Your CAPTEC escort must be with you before you can be processed for a visitor's badge. If you are a DoD employee with access privileges to the Pentagon, you may proceed directly to room 2D1049, directly across from both the Hall of Heroes and PenFed Credit Union.
Visitors who require the use of elevators to access the Metro subway system are urged to consult the Metro website (www.wmata.com) to get updates on elevator outages and information on issues related to accessibility. Please be aware that security procedures at the Pentagon can change without notice.
Please be aware that the process to obtain a visitor badge can take as long as 20 minutes. The appointment process at CAPTEC is very similar to the appointment process at your doctor's office. CAPTEC serves the employees of DoD and 68 Federal agencies. Appointments are in high demand, and we typically schedule 7 to 10 days in advance.
If you can't keep your appointment, we request the courtesy of a notification by phone or email as soon as possible. If you fail to show for a scheduled assessment or demonstration and do not let us know, we cannot schedule other appointments or make use of that time, causing unnecessary delays for all of our customers. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
